The Oscars: Best Picture

Tomorrow night, Sunday March 7th, the Academy Awards will air and all of Hollywood would be out in their Sunday's Best to receive awards for the great work they put out and I will be watch like alot of people in the world. I have made my choices to whom i think will win, but we can still talk about the nominees. Today to discuss the Best Picture nominees and they are:

Avatar
The Blind Side
District 9
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by
Sapphire

A Serious Man
Up
Up in the Air

This is the First time since 1943 that the Academy Awards has had 10 nominees. All the movies in this race are deserving of the nominations they received. The clear front runners for the awards are Avatar and The Hurt Locker. It has been a foot race between the 2 movies over the awards show season. Avatar won the Golden Globe for Best Picture and The Hurt Locker won the BAFTA and Critics Choice Award for Best Picture. I think it's going to go to The Hurt Locker, but Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time and the academy voters might take that in to consideration. I don't think the controversy surrounding The Hurt Locker will hurt its chances, but it can. The other nominees in the category that have a chance to sneak up and take the big prize are Up in the Air, Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by
Sapphire
and Inglourious Basterds. These movies all have the chance to win because they have won big Best Picture awards in other award shows. The only movie that I don't think should have been nominated was A Serious Man whom i serious think stole the nomination from The Hangover which is and was one of the best comedy movies ever made and one of the best movies of last year. So who will win, I think it will be The Hurt Locker as it should be too.

Who Should Win: The Hurt Locker
Who Will Win: The Hurt Locker

Icon: Meryl Streep

The very first time I had ever seen her acting was in "She-Devil" with Roseanne Barr. I had an instant admiration for her skill and I wanted to see more. Over the years I have seen her be a nun, a white water rafter, a fashion Goddess, a Holocaust survivor, a music teacher, an icon chef, an ant queen and the blue fairy. Her skill is so on point and when people say that she is the best living actor around, I simply have to nod my head and agree. Over her career she has garnered a record 16 Academy Award nominations; 2 of which she has won, 13 BAFTA nominations with 1 win, 25 Golden Globe nominations; 7 of which she won, 2 wins out of 3 Emmy nominations, 4 Grammy nominations, 11 Screen Actors Guild nominations with 2 wins and 1 Tony nomination. She has inspired a slew of young actors and actresses to do the best work possible and to strive to be as good as she is. She is a true icon in the acting world and a gift to everyone she has blessed with her work.

The Oscars: Best Actress

This Sunday the Oscars will be on and I will be watching to make sure that my choices have won. So today we will be discussing the Best Actress nominess and they are:

Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side as Leigh Anne Tuohy
Helen Mirren – The Last Station as Sofya Tolstoy
Carey Mulligan – An Education as Jenny Miller
Gabourey Sidibe – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as Claireece "Precious" Jones
Meryl Streep – Julie & Julia as Julia Child

This years Best Actress race is going to be between two vets in the business, Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia & Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side. Meryl is breaking records with this nomination bringing her total to 16 in her career whereas Sandra has been in this business for nearly 2 decades and this is the first time she has even been considered for a nomination, let alone getting one. But who will win? My money will go on Sandra, because not only was she good the Oscar voters do like seeing a story of Hollywood redemption. If either her or Meryl do not win then it will be Gabourey Sidibe for Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire because she is a first time actress and the academy does like to honor the first timers alot and her performance wasn't half bad at all.

Who Should Win: Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side
Who Will Win: Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side

The Oscars: Best Actor

The Oscars are this Sunday the 7th and as we countdown we are making our predictions to whom will win big. Today we talk about the Best Actor category. The nominees are:

Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart as Bad Blake
George Clooney – Up in the Air as Ryan Bingham
Colin Firth – A Single Man as George Falconer
Morgan Freeman – Invictus as Nelson Mandela
Jeremy Renner – The Hurt Locker as Sgt. William James

This is a category with such a diverse group of characters that it's hard to choose. The clear winner is Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, but my heart says that it should be George Clooney for Up in the Air although i really enjoyed Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker. All these actors deserve their nominations (Morgan Freeman and Colin Firth are just seat fillers in the category), but only one can win and it will be Jeff Bridges.

Who Should Win: George Clooney – Up in the Air as Ryan Bingham
Who Will Win: Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart as Bad Blake

The Oscars: Best Supporting Actress

The Oscars are this Sunday and the stars are all prepping for the big night and so am I. Today we talk about the Best Supporting Actress nominations and whom we think will win. My choices have been made, but here is a reminder of the nominees:

Penélope Cruz – Nine as Carla Albanese
Vera Farmiga – Up in the Air as Alex Goran
Maggie Gyllenhaal – Crazy Heart as Jean Craddock
Anna Kendrick – Up in the Air as Natalie Keener
Mo'Nique – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as Mary Lee Johnston

The Best Supporting Actress Category is as easy to predict as the Supporting Actor choices. Mo'Nique is the only choice to win. Her performance in Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire was so strong that her fellow nominees really don't have a chance. The only other performance that can out beat hers is Anna Kendrick in Up in the Air, other than that Mo'Nique is on her way to Oscar gold.

Who Should Win: Mo'Nique – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as Mary Lee Johnston
Who Will Win: Mo'Nique – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as Mary Lee Johnston

The Oscars: Best Supporting Actor

The Oscars are this Sunday and I have already had a chance to make up my mind about who I think will win the big awards. Today we discuss the Best Supporting Actor category to see what the odds are of who will win. The nominees are:

Matt Damon – Invictus as François Pienaar
Woody Harrelson – The Messenger as Capt. Tony Stone
Christopher Plummer – The Last Station as Leo Tolstoy
Stanley Tucci – The Lovely Bones as George Harvey
Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds as Col. Hans Landa

The clear and favorite to win and my choice to win is Christoph Waltz for Inglorious Bastards. He was so good as a devil that could charm and talk you into giving him exactly what he needs. The only reason i don't think he'll win is if the voters don't want to hear another one of his odd acceptance speeches about the fate of Quentin Tarantino discovery him and allowing him to be a vessel of his genius and how the gods have lined up to give him such an blah, blah, blah, blah, he just babbles on and it's odd. The only real chance in him losing is if Stanley Tucci surprised us and won in an upset for The Lovely Bones. So thats my Choice.

Who Should Win:
Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds as Col. Hans Landa
Who Will Win: Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds as Col. Hans Landa
